First Bus, the leading UK’s public transport service is to set to trail zero-emission buses from Arrival- a firm that specializing in the production of commercial electric vehicles in so-called ‘microfactories’.

Both companies will partner to design 36-occupant bus vehicles which they expect to 40 percent lighter compares to other electric buses on the market. The trail for this electric bus is set to begin by 2021.
“As leaders in sustainable mobility, we’re excited to announce our partnership with Arrival, helping us bring some of the most innovative zero-emission vehicles on the market onto the UK’s streets for our customers and partners. We’re proud to be the first operator in the UK to trial Arrival’s electric buses and look forward to working together to accelerate the transition to zero-emissions in our sector,” said Janette Bell, First Bus’s managing director.
“Their ground-breaking technology is also expected to allow for improved customer service, and we’re looking forward to seeing how customers react to the new buses when they’re trialed later this year,” Bell added.
This announcement comes with its previous pledge to stop buying diesel buses post 2022 and run a zero-emission fleet by 2035. Earlier this year in the month of January, First Bus launched a fleet of hydrogen- powered double decker buses in Aberdeen.
Arrival, which was established n 2015, has headquarters in the UK. It deals in developing software, materials and components in-house and producing vehicles in its small-footprint microfactories.
The company, last year said it will go public through a merger with US blank-check giving the value of $5.4 billion.
According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, a firm with black check is a “development stage company that has no specific business plan or purpose or has indicated its business plan is to engage in a merger or acquisition with an unidentified company or companies, other entity, or person.”
Introducing Zero-Emission Transportation
UK government is pressing more on making the country emission free by coming years. To begin with, First Bus and Arrival has come together to show sign of how low and zero emission vehicles will work. It will also play crucial role in urban transportation in the country. Many cities in the UK are encouraging residents to bring down the use of vehicle and start walking.
In capital cities like London and Paris, people are encouraged to use bike sharing schemes for the short journey. In California, officials in the year 2018 voted for the state’s public bus transportation turning it into zero-emissions fleet by the end of 2040.
