The Cheltenham Festival is set to start on 10th March 2020. The festival will experience more people flocking to the town following week. However, if want to move from one point to another using a taxi, there are things you will have to know.
Cheltenham Borough Council-licenced taxis, regional private hire firms, and Ubers are expected to be driving just about Cheltenham in The Festival next week. Eight taxis ranks are expected to be around the town throughout the festival. The major two are in Montpellier and Promenade in the town center.
Taxi officers will be working on the Promenade from 1700hrs to 0400hr. At Montpellier, they will be working from 2200hrs to 0200hrs each day next week.
Private hire firms like local Starline Taxis can only be booked and this means you cannot hail any of them. Also, Uber operators hold private hire permits and so have a right to wander and may take bookings an.ywhere. This is as long as it’s carried out earlier through the application. However, be informed that there might be unauthorized taxis operating across the town.
To differentiate between a Cheltenham Borough Council authorized taxi and an unlicensed taxi, a CBC taxi will have a lithograph with the hologram and logo of the borough council displayed on the rear of the taxi.
Cheltenham Borough Council now says it is managing a security operation to point out the fact that an unlicensed taxi is not far from entering a visitor’s car.
The borough council stated that 12 drivers were indicted for illegally operating for hire throughout the celebration in 2019.
The licensing crew leader at the authority, Louis Krog, said this: “Every year we see unlicensed vehicles and vehicles licensed elsewhere come to Cheltenham to work. No vehicle other than a Cheltenham licensed taxi can ply for hire. We want to be clear that officers will be out throughout the week and we will prosecute any driver found to be illegally plying their trade.”
He also added this: “We do this to keep visitors and residents safe. Unlicensed vehicles are not insured properly and the drivers would not have been checked. We would urge visitors to use Cheltenham licensed vehicles.”
Taxi operators follow a universal law that no drink or food is permitted in a taxi just in case there is a spillage. So, alcohol and kebabs are discarded or taken prior to getting into the cab.
Anybody or any animal that belongs to an individual that soils the inside of the taxi will be required to pay £50 in case the taxi requires valeting or cleaning.
Furthermore, taxis listed outside the district may drop individuals off in Cheltenham but must not then use for business in Cheltenham.
